Medium Red Clover is a fast-establishing, high-protein legume that performs exceptionally well across a wide range of soil conditions, including damp or moderately acidic soils. It provides highly palatable, nutrient-rich forage from early spring through late autumn. As a nitrogen-fixing perennial/biennial, it naturally enriches the soil, making it ideal for multi-year plots, nurse crops, or rotational soil improvement.

Key Specifications

  • Crop Type: Cool-season perennial legume (typically lasts 2–3 years)

  • Primary Attraction: High-protein tonnage (up to 25% crude protein) that draws deer, turkeys, and wildlife throughout spring, summer, and fall

  • Soil Benefit: Fixes atmospheric nitrogen to build soil fertility naturally

  • Planting Depth: 1/8 to 1/4 inch (or frost seeded on bare soil in early spring)

  • Soil pH Range: 6.0 – 7.0 (more tolerant of slightly lower pH than alfalfa or white clover)

Broadcast Seeding Rates

  • Monoculture (Pure Stand): 12–15 lbs per acre

  • Mixes (Blended with brassicas, chicory, or cereal grains): 4–6 lbs per acre

  • Frost Seeding: 10–12 lbs per acre (on honeycombed soil in late winter/early spring)
